Malachite after Azurite from Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia

22-JJ-14

3.8 x 3.4 x 1.7 cm

A sharp crystal of Malachite after Azurite – called a pseudomorph, which is a mineralogical term used to describe when one mineral replaces another atom for atom whilst retaining the original mineral’s crystal structure. Which is to say, this is a Malachite specimen that has fully replaced an Azurite crystal! Don’t miss this fine Malachite after Azurite specimen from the eternally popular and long defunct Tsumeb Mine! One of the richest ore bodies in the world, the Tsumeb Mine produced millions of tons of metallic ores as well as numerous varieties of minerals, in all sorts of combinations! Pseudomorphs such as this are one of the staples collectors go for from this locale (and one of my favorites). This is a choice and showy piece for sure!
