NWA 76950 analyzed Lunar meteorite found near the Mali/Algeria border in 2011. But how is it that a piece of the Moon was found here on Earth, you may ask. Well, meteor impacts on the Moon can launch rocks into space, some of which find themselves caught in Earth’s gravity well and fall to the surface as meteorites, from the Moon originally. But how do we KNOW this is a piece of the Moon? We have been to the Moon before and analyzed hundreds of pounds of Lunar rocks from the surface. The data from our findings is used as a comparison. Not a big sample by any stretch of the imagination, but this is is the real deal!
